The Skinny Jean

Um, so I realize that the few times I've actually been blogging lately I've been a bit of a downer. It's hard to be optimistic when life is beating down on you. So I was trying to think of something positive & upbeat to write about today. For some reason what popped into my head isn't really positive or upbeat at all. It's how much I really dislike the skinny jean.

They are horrible on all levels. Very few people can pull them off. Those that can? Well, who really likes those really skinny types that can actually pull them off. Don't get me wrong, I have a few friends that can & do pull them off, and I do like those friends. Honestly though, even if you can pull them off, I still dislike them.

If you can't pull them off, then well, they really don't work for you. You know how sometimes you can have clothes that maybe don't do anything to really flatter your figure, but they can still look okay on you? The skinny jeans do not fit that category. If they don't flatter you, they make you look fat. And ackward. And, um, not skinny.

They were horrible in the 80's. They are horrible now.

Someone needs to put an end to the skinny jeans before those of us who really can't pull them off (which is really almost all of us) end up being forced to wear them because boot cut has been forced out of being fashionable. I beg all of you, please help stop the skinny jean fad now before it gets out of control.

I used to feel the same way - I was blessed with big hips and have big thighs from running. But I'd see girls who weren't stick thin either wearing them and looking good. Then I heard good things about the GAPs new skinny jeans, tried them on, and was sold! I'm sure you are cringing, but I have to admit, I am a convert!

I totally agree. I just can't see them working on anyone who's not stick thin. And, I think they really accentuate the thighs, not a good thing in my case. :)

I hate them, too.

I took my 18 y.o. BROTHER to shop for pants and he got skinny jeans. I thought I was going to die in the middle of the overpriced, trendy mecca we were shopping in. Good grief.

Yeah I thought the same thing, too . . but now I'm in love with mine. Especially because they fit under my boots, and the boots are too pretty to cover up. :) It's unfortunate that they don't look good on everyone, but that goes for so many other things. Because I have short legs, there are many items I wish I could wear, but just can't. Fortunately I don't think the boot cut will ever go out of style, because it's flattering on all body types. It's just more of a classic look, rather than trendy.

AMEN, lady! I agree wholeheartedly. I don't care what happens to the boot cut. It will always be my friend!

It's funny that you posted this, because I had a nightmare last night that the only pair of maternity pants I owned were whitewashed skinny pants! It was really horrifying, because I have huge thighs and legs and that is the WORST style for me. I will always heart boot cuts!!! xoxo, GFF

My daughter hated skinny jeans for ages ("I'm not a slave to fashion!" she would say) until she had to get a pair for a hip hop dance class she was in. Now she loves them. It's a good thing that, unlike me, she is quite thin. I have to say I think toddlers in skinny jeans are quite cute, I bought a pair for my 3 year old not realizing they were skinny. My issue is actually with how low jeans are on little kids. I spend my day telling my 2 youngest to hike up their pants. I recently found a pair that belonged to my oldest (now 14) when she was 3 and the difference in the crotch to waist is amazing!

Sorry about the length of this comment...I do tend to babble! Should probably say I found you at Girl from Florida's.
